Last year we had several sponsors who agreed to help support the expedition, which means that we're more or less got most of the equipment we need for this year (and hopefully for the rest of the trip). But the one this which we really hadn't properly prepared for last year was the mosquitoes...and this year we don't intend to make that mistake again.
We've been in touch with Pyramid, who supply insect protection gear (as well as other travel products), and they've agreed to support us in our figh
t against mosquitoes for this year's expedition! They've been kind enough to provide us with a couple of mosquito nets for when we're bivvying out at night, as well as two mosquito proof shirts. So we'll get full protection throughout the day and the night if we need it! They will make us look like beekeepers, but that's alright cos keeping bees is COOL!
We're particularly excited about the shirts, as we met a hunter last year in the woods who was wearing one, and seemed pretty unphased by the swarms of mosquitoes clustered around him. Needless to say the downside of meeting him was that the swarm following him then decided to follow us, since we were easy targets. But this year we shall have our own mosquito-proof shirts, and those pesky creatures will bother us no longer! We'll keep you all updated on how effective they are at keeping us safe.
